Lyrics

 And So I Rose

On the longest day, at the loss of words

In the gloaming of the solstice rose a thousand birds
They filled my heart and made me cry
In the gloaming of that solstice I remembered I could fly

And so I rose and so I flew
Bewilderment in every breath I drew
The moment opened me
Supposing I were free?

They weigh me down these boundaries
Like stones I stack upon my curiosity
Yet something calls me to the sky
Enormity inviting me to wonder and to rise

And so I rose and so I flew
Bewilderment in every breath I drew
The moment opened me
Supposing I were free?

And so I rose and so I flew
Bewilderment in every breath I drew
The moment opened me
Supposing I were free?

On the longest day, at the loss of words

In the gloaming of the solstice rose a thousand birds
They filled my heart and made me cry
In the gloaming of that solstice I remembered I could fly

And So I Rose is about exhilarating insight—the moment when you realize that the realm of the possible has just expanded, suddenly and radically. The song came unexpectedly, so I had to scribble down the words as fast as I could. But I didn’t perform it for over a year. At last, on an outdoor stage in rural Sweden, I found the conviction to sing the song; as the “thousand birds” rose up in the lyrics, a flock of real birds flew over that stage while I sang. It gave me chills.
