Lyrics

Make it Through (Juliane Poirier)

You've got a windshield-wiper metronome
On a winding highway far from home
You're driving through a storm
It's pouring rain, there's a wicked wind
Rocks in the road around the bend
Inside you're feeling torn

And you can't turn back, you're unprepared
All the sky is black and you're really scared
You wonder if you'll make it through--
You'll make it through, just say you will survive
You'll make it through, just keep yourself alive
Beyond this long, long, long and crazy ride

You aim at the rain-- it's all you see
While the road is growing slippery
You think you're gonna slide
So you grab a mantra from the sound
Of the frantic wipers slapping down
A rhythm for this ride

And you can't turn back, you're unprepared
All the sky is black and you're really scared
You wonder if you'll make it through--
You'll make it through, just say you will survive
You'll make it through, just keep yourself alive
Beyond this long, long, long and crazy ride

And you can't turn back, you're unprepared
All the sky is black and you're really scared
You wonder if you'll make it through--
You'll make it through, just say you will survive
You'll make it through, just keep yourself alive
Beyond this long, long, long and crazy ride

The pounding sound of rain you hear
Just hammers in your every fear
And messes with your mind
So grip that wheel to keep your lane
When the tires decide to hydroplane
Across the double line

And you can't turn back, you're unprepared
All the sky is black and you're really scared
You wonder if you'll make it through--

You'll make it through, just say you will survive
You'll make it through, just keep yourself alive
Beyond this long, long, long, long
Beyond this long, long
Beyond this long, long, long and crazy rideMake it Through (Juliane Poirier)

You’ve got a windshield-wiper metronome
On a winding highway far from home
You’re driving through a storm

It’s pouring rain, there’s a wicked wind
Rocks in the road around the bend
Inside you’re feeling torn

Cause you can’t turn back and you can’t prepare
When the sky turns black and you’re really scared
You wonder if you’ll make it through

Yes, you’ll make it through
And yes you will survive
You’ll make it through
Just keep yourself alive
Beyond this long, long, long
And crazy ride

You aim at the rain-- it’s all you see
While the road is growing slippery
You hope that you don’t slide

So you focus on the steady sound
Of the frantic wipers slapping down
The rhythm of this ride

Cause you can’t turn back and you can’t prepare
When the sky turns black and you’re really scared
You wonder if you’ll make it through

Yes, you’ll make it through
And yes you will survive
You’ll make it through
Just keep yourself alive
Beyond this long, long, long
And crazy ride

[Instrumental break]

Cause you can’t turn back and you can’t prepare
When the sky turns black and you’re really scared
You wonder if you’ll make it through

Yes, you’ll make it through
And yes you will survive
You’ll make it through
Just keep yourself alive
Beyond this long, long, long
And crazy ride

When the rain and the wind wipe out your view
Don’t let fear get the best of you
Don’t let it steal your mind
Just grip that wheel and keep your lane
Even if the tires hydroplane
Across the double line

Cause you can’t turn back and you can’t prepare
When the sky turns black and you’re really scared
You wonder if you’ll make it through

Yes, you’ll make it through
And yes you will survive
You’ll make it through
Just keep yourself alive
Beyond this long, long, long
Beyond this long, long
Beyond this long, long, long and crazy ride

Make It Through is a song about perseverance, based on a hellish, pre-dawn drive. I was on a remote road during one of the worst rains I have ever seen, terrified of being late on my first day of a new job. The added terror of being dead, too, was a bit much. I felt like Karen Silkwood when a truck came out of nowhere and tried to run me off the road. I lived to write a song about making it through a bad patch of life.
