Lyrics

Beaten Down
Ray Burns
& Eric Lindstrom

When you’re beaten down
With your face in the dirt.
Sweat in your eyes,
And your whole body hurts
When you’re crying
Tears on your face.
There’s no one to pick you up
To put your heart back in its place.

Chorus
How do you get up from that? (When you’re beaten down)
How do you get up from that? (When you’re beaten down)
How do you get up from that? (When you’re beaten down)
How do you get up from that? (When you’re beaten down)
How do you get up from that?

My life’s story
Is full of pain instead of glory
Getting knocked down.
Trying to get up from the ground
Treating the cuts and soon the wounds will hide.
The blood will dry up but will that pain ever subside?

Chorus

Solo

Chorus
How do you get up from that? (Tell me, tell me now)
How do you get up from that? (When you’re beaten down)
How do you get up from that? (When you’re beaten down)
How do you get up from that? (When you’re beaten down)
How do you get up from that?

Pull yourself up
Grab on to the rail. (On to the rail)
You gotta get yourself up and out.
Out of that hell (Out of that hell)
Sometimes you won’t see
A rope or anyone to help you
Give a scream You gotta pull yourself out.

That’s how you get up from that? (When you’re beaten down)
That’s how you get up from that? (When you’re beaten down)
That’s how you get up from that? (When you’re beaten down)
That’s how you get up from that? (When you’re beaten down)

When everything has worked against you, and you feel that there is no way to recover your ground, you might understand what I was feeling when writing this song. Sometimes the sting of rejection, or failure, or disappointment, feels strong enough to leave a physical mark, but life goes on. In the end, we are responsible to pick ourselves up and start over again. While, there may be times when others are available to help, it seems that the hardest times are when there is no help in sight.
