Lyrics

Waltz with Me

Juliane Poirier & Jeffrey Powel

Would you please
Waltz with me into the past?
Our song is playing at last

Pressing your hand to mine
Circling back in time
Leading with hope and surprise
And the love that is still in your eyes

Step in close then move in time
Recollect when you were first mine

Would you please
Waltz with me into the light
Of stars on a warm summer’s night

Pressing your heart to mine
Trusting a love divine
Dance to a song we’ve long known
In a circle that’s bringing us home

Step in close then move in time
Recollect when you were first mine

Would you please
Waltz with me into the past?
Our song is playing at last

Pressing your hand to mine
Circling back in time
Leading with hope and surprise
And the love that is still in your eyes
And the love that is still in your eyes

The words for this song were written by Juliane Poirier while the music was largely written by Juliane with a small contribution by Jeff to the chorus. It was originally recorded on a reel to reel tape recorder in Jeff's living room on the last night of a visit by Juliane to the Northwest. She had really wanted to co-write a song and had presented this one, practically complete, for Jeff's input. In less than a few minute's time, the final chord arrangements were made and the song recorded on the reel to reel with a acoustic lead added a few weeks later. This was converted to a rough MP3 and sent off the Juliane, who in the mean time, had already taught the song to a group of musicians with whom she was playing in Napa. Missing the boat on any higher quality recording of the song at that time with Juliane, Jeff and his Thursday Night musicians did a cover of the song as noted above.

This song is a collaborative effort of the DeComposers in execution. The vocal arrangements were largely the work of Chris Rininger and Ray Burns while the instrumentation is the work of Jeff. The clavachord, bassoon, bass and percussion are all midi, with apologies to Juliane for liberties taken with her wonderful song.
