Lyrics

the Veil
Jeffrey Powel

Eugenie loves Napoleon forever
With a love that will not fail.
You can see it in her eyes,
You can feel the family ties
When he finally sees her in her veil.
When he finally sees her in her veil.

In her veil
In her veil
When he finally sees her in her veil.
They’ll be standing side by side
When he takes her as his bride
She’ll be his when he see’s her in her veil.
She’ll be his when he see’s her in her veil.

It’s just lace that’s been passed down through the ages
It’s been woven with a love that perseveres.
There are stories in this cloth
There are memories we’ve not lost
It’s been touched by those we hold dear.

In her veil
In her veil
When he finally sees her in her veil.
They’ll be standing side by side
When he takes her as his bride
She’ll be his when he see’s her in her veil.
She’ll be his when he see’s her in her veil.

When we stand before one another
Like the ones who have loved and gone before.
I will slowly lift that lace
To reveal my smiling face
And give thanks for the one that I adore.
I give thanks for the one that I adore.

In her veil
In her veil
When he finally sees her in her veil.
They’ll be standing side by side
When he takes her as his bride
She’ll be his when he see’s her in her veil.
She’ll be his when he see’s her in her veil.

In her veil
In her veil
When he finally sees her in her veil.
They’ll be standing side by side
When he takes her as his bride
She’ll be his when he see’s her in her veil.
She’ll be his when he see’s her in her veil.

The Veil is a song written by Jeffrey Powel about a family heirloom that he first learned of when his son married Lauren Keesey in August of 2013. While it had been worn by the bride of his older brother, his sister, his mother and many, many others in his family and beyond, he was not aware of it and it's amazing history prior to 2013. It had been volunteered by a relative as something the kids "might like to consider" and then, with that introduction and some handwritten archival notes, Jeff began to research the history. The result of that effort is now on a website, the Powel Veil, along with many photos and historical tidbits about the family.
